We have modified the 1200FSA Flat Surface Adapter to increase the mounting strength required for the higher load capacity of the 1600GTO mount. Enter the 1612FSA Flat Surface Adapter. It is stronger, while meeting the needs of both the 1200GTO and 1600GTO mounts. When used with the 1600GTO there is no need for an extra pier adapter, as the 1600 incorporates the functionality of the Precision-Rotating Pier Adapter (1200RPA) into its base and will attach directly to the 1612FSA. The added latitude range of the 1600 also eliminates the need of a polar wedge.
However, with a 1200GTO, use this Flat Surface Adapter to attach the Precision-Adjust Rotating Pier Adapter (1200RPA) to a flat plate on your custom made pier or tripod or to the top of your 1200 Hi-Lo Latitude Wedge (1200WDG). You can also use it with the Standard Pier Adapter (1200SPA) to give a more finished appearance.
The 1612 Flat Surface Adapter is precision machined aluminum. It has been polished smooth and then anodized black. We added four base mounting holes for strength and an “N” and “S” engraving to eliminate any attachment confusion.
The Flat Surface Adapter bolts onto the flat plate on top of your pier or tripod. Matching holes (using four of the eight 1/4-20 holes) are also provided on the top plate of the 1200 Hi-Lo Latitude Wedge. Then the Pier Adapter simply slips in (just as it fits into our pier) and you fasten from the side with the six screws and washers provided with the mount (1600GTO) or Pier Adapter (1200GTO).
DETAILED INFORMATION ON ATTACHMENT PREPARATION
The bolt circle for attaching the 1200 Flat Surface Adapter to your pier is 9.230” in diameter. Please refer to the PDF link provided above for detailed information on attachment preparation.
The holes for mounting the 1612FSA to your flat surface are counter-bored to accept the head of a standard ¼” socket head cap screw (13/32” or 0.406” diameter). This allows the 1600 base or Pier Adapter to sit perfectly in the Flat Surface Adapter. Because installations will vary, we do not provide the screws for mounting the Flat Surface Adapter to your pier or tripod. Your pier's top plate should be a minimum of 9.75" in diameter. The 1612 Flat Surface Adapter itself is 10.375" in diameter.
