QHY CCD QHY5-III-178-C, 6.0 Megapixel, 50FPS, High-resolution Back-illuminated CMOS Camera, Color

QHY CCD QHY5-III-178-C, 6.0 Megapixel, 50FPS, High-resolution Back-illuminated CMOS Camera, Color

QHY5III178 uses the new 6.0 Megapixel IMX178 STARVIS Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS sensor. Available in both color and monochrome. With its small 2.4um pixels and 1/1.8-inch sensor size, the monochrome QHY5III178M is a superb guiding camera due to its advantages in resolution and wide FOV, plus its extraordinary sensitivity due to the STARVIS Exmore sensor.  (Starvis is Sony's designation for sensors that can record dim stars in real time video).

The QHY5III178 has the highest resolution in the new QHY5III series.  This sensor has small 2.4um pixels and a 1/1.8-inch sensor that can be used for high-precison guiding data with a good FOV for easily finding guide stars. The camera is designed to be a wide FOV autoguider, high-resolution planetary camera, and entery level deep sky camera.  It is available in both mono and color versions.

For deep sky imaging, the QHY5III178 uses our proprietary anti-amp glow control function that reduces amplifer glow significantly.

The QHY5III178 sensor is Sony's StarVis BSI image sensor. STARVIS is a trademark of Sony Corporation. BSI means the sensor is Back Side Illuminated  which dramatically increases the sensor's sensitivity and produces high picture quality in the visible-light and near infrared light regions.

The unique QHYCCD design retains the 1.25-inch eyepiece design of the QHY5-II but adds features for improved thermal efficiency. The advantage of this design is better transfer of heat to the outer case enabling lower noise especially in high ambient temperatures.  The 1.25-inch design also offers the shortest possible backfocus, making the camera ideal for off-axis guiding.  In addition, the QHY5III178 uses the more robust LEMO style connector for the guide port.  These connectors are known for being both rugged and reliable connectors.

High Quality 5pin Lemo Guide Socket

The QHY5-III series cameras are USB3.0 super-speed cameras and guiders.  They can be used in a standard 1.25-inch eyepiece holder and have an adjustable location ring for confocality with an eyepiece. All QHY5-III series cameras come in a very small but powerful package!

The QHY5-III series employs an advanced thermal design. The heat generated by the CMOS sensor is transferred externally to the telescope's eyepiece tube. Additional heat is transferred to a heat sink on the location ring and cooled by outside air.

Software support includes: EZPlanetary, SharpCAP, FireCapture, Native WDM, BroadCast WDM and ASCOM.
