TeleVue 31mm Nagler Type 5

Great Optically but ..............

Great views but sold it in favor of the 35mm Panoptic instead. It was unconfortable for me to use. No nose room. Could not look straight into it and had to hold my head looking off to the side. Also too heavy/cumbersome for most of my equipment plus would have had to purchase a new Paracorr (Visual to correct for vignetting) for use with my 16 f/4.5. My rating above is for optical quality which is first rate. I just had too many other issues with it to keep it.

My 1st Look Planetary Eyepiece

For some reason this eyepiece has become my 1st-look GOTO planetary eyepiece. It provides good magnifcation and contrast for detailed views of the planets. It is very small and light. Contrast is high, high, high. Drawbacks include tight eye relief and for me the flat area that rings the eye lens is so shiny and polished that it causes problems for me when viewing in daylight or bright twilight. Provides distracting glare from light coming in from the side around the eye. Have to cup my hand around my eye and eyepiece. Cant say that Ive noticed this on other eyepieces. I like it anyway. Would like to compare to the 15 Panoptic soon.
