Our customers have been invaluable sources of inspiration and direction. It was in direct response to customer inquiries that we developed the ST-2000XM. Now those who wanted something bigger and better but at a lower price than the ST-8 or ST-10 have got what they asked for. The ST-2000XM has been developed to meet the needs of the astro-imager.

The ST-1603ME is essentially the same camera as the ST-402ME except that the imaging CCD is 4X larger and it has 4X the number of pixels. The ST-1603ME uses the KAF-1603ME CCD, the same sensor we use in the ST-8XME. This CCD is 1530 x 1020 pixels at 9 microns. However, due to the size of the array, the internal filter wheel cannot be used. For color or photometric applications the CFW10-SA can be used insted with standard 1.25" filters.

The Self-Guiding Spectrograph is designed to be used with an ST-7E camera. Although it can also be used with an ST-8E, there is no advantage in bandwidth when using the larger format camera. The spectrometer and ST-7/8 are coupled and mounted as a unit onto the telescope.

The body is identical to the ST-7XME, ST-8XME, ST-9XME and ST-2000XM models with some slight modifications to accommodate the larger detector. Like other self-guiding cameras in the ST series, the ST-10XME contains two CCDs. In this case, the imaging CCD is an enhanced KAF-3200ME imaging detector from Kodak with 3.2 million pixels. The guiding CCD is the TC-237H with 657 x 495 pixels.

Picture of STX-16803 w/KAF-16803 CCD (Monochrome)

It is well known that the advantage of easier guiding through a separate guide scopes is often limited by differential deflection of the guide scope relative to the main optical axis due to mechanical flexure or shifting of the mirror in the main OTA.  This difficulty is addressed with two new guiding techniques developed by SBIG and implemented in the STX series cameras.
