Takahashi Collimating Scope

By Dan Halstead on October, 17th 2009

I have tried all the top of the line Cheshire type collimating eyepieces. None of them can hold a candle to this device. It is basically a Cheshire with built in magnifier which makes the image you see inside so much clearer. The manner in which the 45 degree opening is covered to diffuse the light provides a consistent image with out the usual flaring e.t.c. Also since the scope itself will move in and out of focus there is no need to use the one your telescope as when you do you also end up moving the collimator opening away from the light source which in turn can introduce sporadic errors. Yes these are a few adapters you will need to get from someone like Huetech to make this device work on non Takahashi scopes but believe me the extra cost and effort are more than worth it. Any one with a high end refractor will not regret buying this scope. In fact I happen to know that Thomas Back of the world famous APM/TMB scope makers uses this when he configures the scopes he hand assemblies for his customers. Dan
