TeleVue 11mm Nagler Type 6

5.0 out of 5 stars
3 customer reviews

The 11mm Nagler Type 6 slots in perfectly between the 13mm and 9mm Type 6s and makes a perfect companion to the 7mm.

The 7-element, Nagler Type 6 design is based on the original patented Nagler design. This new 7-element design update for the short focal length Nagler deserves its own designation. Using different exotic materials, coating processes and design ingenuity, Al has massaged more eye-relief, contrast, and true field of view into the shorter focal length Naglers, while maintaining the absolute sharpness of the originals. Eye-relief is 12mm on each model, and all are sized about the same as the original 7mm! Weight about 0.4 to 0.5 lbs.

Why Are There 3 Types of Naglers?

To achieve the full magnification range over 82° apparent field of view requires two types: Nagler Type-5 with focal lengths of 31, 26, 20, 16mm and Nagler Type-6 with focal lengths of 13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 3.5, 2.5mm.

The Type-5 permits the largest true field possible (31mm has 42mm field stop), while the shorter focal length Type-6 models are parfocal, with similiar size and weight and all with a comfortable 12mm eye relief.

The Type-4 models feature about 18mm of eye relief and with the "instajust" eyeguard are best for eyeglass wearers or Dioptrx users in their 22, 17, 12mm focal length range.

11mm Nagler T-6

By Ron Smith on October, 17th 2009

Al Naglers hit another home run with this new addition to the T-6 line. Youll appreciate adequate eye relief combined with incredible sharpness to the very edge of the field of view. Enjoy incredible deep sky views, or great lunar and planetary viewing with long focal length scopes.

A Nagler masterpiece?

By Phil Agins on October, 17th 2009

I bought this unit to test how good the new T6s really are compared to the all the past Nagler designs. Clearly, Uncle Al has made the move to replace the focal lengths of his classic T1s with an all out assault on eyepiece technology. I had wanted to replace a vintage 9mm T1 so I figured if the 11mm T6 didnt work, no harm no foul. Well, this unit is shockingly good. I use it as a mainstay for medium power in f/5 and f/6 Dobsonians. It misses a 10 due to some mild field curvature out at the very edge next to the field stop and some color on brighter stars, planets and Luna on about 10% of the outer edge. Other than these minor flaws from perfection this unit truly replaces the classic T1s in these shorter focal lengths with better on axis sharpness, contrast and throughput all in a unit about the size and weight of a 30 plossl! In fact, on-axis performance matches my plossls and orthos. Here you have a widefield that gives stunning deep sky views and still can hold its own against the more standard planetary / lunar units. Bravo Uncle Al!

a Nagler gem

By Theodore Mattas on October, 17th 2009

Hello from Greece I bought this eyepiece because I needed a medium magnification eyepiece to use with my 12 f/4 Newtonian. It gives me 109X which I mainly use when I observe galaxies. This eyepiece is lightweight and gives wonderful, sharp and high contrast views. It is a no mistake investment for any serious astronomer. Highly recommended
