Tele Vue Barlows: "An Optically Perfect Window"

"A Little Nagler Goes Into Every Tele Vue Barlow"

Properly designed Barlows do wonderful things. First, they amplify power while retaining the eyepiece`s eye-relief. Second, they slow the telescope`s f/#, which improves eyepiece sharpness. Third, the designer can introduce compensations for eyepiece aberrations. Tele Vue`s 2" 2x BIG Barlow, 1 1/4" 2x and 3x Barlows were envisioned as magnification windows. Multi-coated high index glasses assure optimum aberration correction, exceptional contrast and virtually no light loss. Tele Vue Barlows achieve their design goals even when tested by the fastest scopes. They even improve our competitor`s eyepieces and telescopes!

For eyeglass wearers, the Big Barlow is perfect for doubling the power while retaining the eye-relief of 2" Tele Vue eyepieces such as the 55mm Plossl, 35mm and 27mm Panoptics (requires use of Panoptics Barlow Interface) and 20mm Nagler Type 2.

Our design approach includes mechanical conveniences. The Barlows are parfocal with our eyepieces and the BIG Barlow includes a parfocal 2" - 1 1/4" adapter. The BIG Barlow is threaded for 48mm filters and has a captive lock-screw. Both 1 1/4" Barlows are threaded for 1 1/4" filters.

Tele Vue Quality:  Why compromise any optical link? Tele Vue product design and execution deliver consummate satisfaction. Every Tele Vue Barlow must pass the same rigorous f/4, full field testing as all our eyepieces before leaving our hands for yours.

User Report:  "Tele Vue`s "Big Barlow" doubled the power but, like an optically perfect window, never gave any other indication that it was in the light path. The airy disc and surrounding diffraction rings were perfect, with no sign of astigmatism or coma. It will provide outstanding optical performance with all your eyepieces." -Alan Dyer Astronomy Magazine

Televue Barlow

By James Hill on October, 17th 2009

I chose Televue largely because of their reputation for excellence. But the product description was also critical. Televue advertises that their 2X and 3X barlows are corrected for scopes down to F/4, and I can vouch for that as my reflector is an F/4. Being able to use my 32mm eyepiece with the Televue barlow was also a slight consideration since most barlows are designed to work with eyepieces 26mm and shorter. I have been very pleased with the performance of my Televue barlow. I have not noticed any visual distortions when using the barlow, not even at the edge of the field of view. I was able to find the central star in M57 using the barlow to reach 200X. Also at 200X, M13 filled my field of view and I was able to distinguish between blue and white stars with my 8” reflector. Overall, images were crisp, and I have not noticed any differences in image quality when viewing with just my Meade Series 4000 Super Plossls or when using my barlow in conjunction with these same eyepieces. In addition, I am impressed with the sturdy construction of the Televue barlow. The strong metal tube has no problems supporting my 1-pound Vixen Superwide eyepiece. And the compression ring holds my eyepieces very firmly without leaving set screw marks. The only concern one might have about purchasing a Televue Barlow is that it does require a bit of back travel with my telescope. This is no problem for my three inches of focus travel. However, I would recommend testing it out first at a star party before purchasing it for use with a 1” or 1.5” focus travel focuser.

Outstanding, outstanding, outstanding!

I can not find a single thing that is not great about this Barlow! Even with my ETX-70 I am still able to get it into focus! Thank you Tele-Vue!
