Mechanical Features

Astro-Physics customers have appreciated the brass locking ring on Astro-Physics adapters and 2" Barlow and have urged us to develop a diagonal with this feature. The recessed brass ring is under the thumbscrew location. As you tighten the thumbscrew, the brass locking ring clamps onto your eyepiece. This provides a more secure grip for your expensive eyepieces than the head of a single screw can provide. As an added advantage, the brass will not mar the surface of your accessories.

The diagonal is accurately square to the optical axis due to the CNC machined parts and special mounting method of the mirror. The baffles and flat black interior allow maximum light transmission. It is threaded for 48m filters so that you can change eyepieces with ease without changing the filter.

Consider these dimensions to be sure that the barrel of your accessories will not strike the mirror. When using 2" accessories, the depth from the top of the diagonal to the mirror surface is 1.85". When using 1.25" accessories, the depth from the top of the diagonal to the mirror surface is 2.25"; our 1.25" adapter adds another 0.25" height. Remember that if you add filters to your eyepiece barrels, the overall length changes.

The total optical path length is 4.1", comprised of 2.75" from the center of the ocular opening to the mirror and 1.35" from the center of the objective opening to the mirror.

Best out There!

By Todd Strackbein on October, 17th 2009

What more can I say. I have two examples and both mirrors are perfectly aligned and units seem bullet proof. Use AP 2 SCT adapter with your diagonal and it will never move (rotate) even with heavy loads such as binoviewers.

superb

Functional, solid, a work of art. This is going to be something youll keep forever.

Fantastic.

By Richard Lipow on October, 17th 2009

This is great diagonal. I use it on a SCT and refractor to hold six eyepieces mounted in a turret, a binoviewer with 24 panoptics and a 31 Nagler. The clamp holds tightly. The mirror is bright and flawless. A great buy that will save your valuable eyepieces and other equipment from a fall.

Simply the Best....

By Mike Sandy on October, 17th 2009

As always - excellent workmanship. That has become my expectation when I buy any item by AP. The design is also up to the AP standard, meaning it too is superior. Its the simple things, like the ability to easily remove the mirror to keep it clean. Ive used and owned many diagonals.....and this is my second Maxbright - and the AP MaxBright is clearly my favorite! Its unclear to me how anyone could rate it other than a ten.

Excellent Diagonal

By Melvyn Kalich on October, 17th 2009

I tried the A-P MaxBright 2 Mirror Diagonal with my WO ZS110 refractor. The quality of manufacture was obvious. Fit without any wobble. Lens hold beyond reproach. With TV 32 mm Plossl images looked same as with WO Dialectric Coated diagonal. With Tak LE-ED 5mm images snapped into focus slightly better with the A-P MaxBright. The claimed scatter reduction appears to be accurate. I would recommend this diagonal without reservation.

You Cant Do Any Better

By Gordon Landers on October, 17th 2009

There are lots of good diagonals available, but I know of only two which top the list. I favor the MaxBright because of Astro-Physics confidence in their mirror coatings. Although we are constantly warned against excessive cleaning of optics, this company advises us to go ahead and clean the mirror if necessary. The final proof of the product is what you see in your scope. I see a definite improvement in clarity and definition in views when using the MaxBright.
